We are excited to introduce Robert O’ Reilly who operates the Ultrasound Lab in our practice.

His career started back in 2007 when he registered to Study a diploma in Radiography (diagnostic)  at Durban University of Technologies. He completed his studies in 2009 with cum lade and performed in excess of 2500 hours of practical experience at Lake, Smit and partners. In 2010, he was based at Newcastle provincial hospital as a community service radiographer for the year.

In 2011, he started with My B-tech in Ultrasound at Durban University of technologies and completed the course over a two year period. During the two year course, a minimum of 2500 hours of practical experience was performed at Lake, Smit and partners once again. During the B-tech he also maintained a night duty radiographer position at Lake, Smit and partners. He was employed as an ultrasonographer from January 2013 and excelled and was appointed as a specialist sonographer during his time spent there.

He also attended an advanced musculoskeletal course and an online musculoskeletal course provided by a Canadian institution during his time at Lake, Smit and partners. On the 2nd January 2018, his very own private practice was born and the Ultrasound lab opened its doors to the community of Scottburgh and surrounding areas.

The use of ultrasound has been widely used throughout the medical field and has many different applications. As a sonographer, he is competent in abdominal and pelvic ultrasound, vascular ultrasound, small parts, pleural space and has a special interest in musculoskeletal ultrasound. 3D and 4D obstetric imaging are also offered at the practice. The ultrasound lab is based within Scottburgh Diagnostic Imaging and therefore x-rays are also readily available.

As a sonographer, he believes that the ultrasound scan is only as good as the operator’s knowledge and experience.
